1 Jul 2008 In Kolkata (Calcutta), India, hundreds of sex workers marched in the streets

In Kolkata (Calcutta), India, hundreds of sex workers marched in the streets in 1 Jul 2008, opposing the government’s passing the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act (ITPA). According to the ACT, most of the social service transactions between adults are considered human trafficking. Sex workers’ support groups in India are worried that sex work will be forced to go underground. Sex workers’ safety and health will therefore be seriously affected.
